How do they do it? How can they think of all that stuff so fast? How are they so confident? I wonder if I could do that?!?!?! What are all those fun “short form” games Improvers play, like: Shakespeare, Five Things, Dr. Know It All, Dime Store Novel, Oxygen Deprivation, Radio, Day In The Life, Object Freeze, What Are You Doing, Limerick, Revolving Door, Chain Murder Death, Game-o-Matic, Side Line Debate, and Playwright.
COMEDY IMPROV WORKSHOPS & SHOWS
These Comedy Improv Workshops will provide you the opportunity to develop beginner level skills, techniques, courage, and the magic that is Comedy Improv! In these workshops, you will learn the foundational rules of short form comedy improvisation as a theatre technique and theatre form. These workshops are for people who have not done Improv before and would love to try or for people who have done Improv before and want to brush up on their foundational skills! Don’t be shy! Come try it, you know you want to!
These workshops and performances are an excellent opportunity to learn improvisation techniques to assist one’s overall acting ability, to learn and perform short form comedy Improv, make others laugh, and become rich and famous beyond your wildest dreams (well. . .maybe, just the first three, but that’s not half bad either)!!
After workshopping, participants will give two performances to display their new talents and skills. The shows are a mandatory part of the workshops and take place on February 20th at 7:30 p.m. and February 21 at 2:00 p.m.
Dates and Times
The Workshops are Thursday evenings from 7:00p.m.-8:30p.m. on January 21, 28, February 4, 11, and 18. Workshop space is limited to eight. Reserve your space early! You are required to attend all workshops and perform in both shows! Workshops and performances will all be done online via ZOOM or another online platform.
The Instructor
Barry Schreier, Ph.D. acted professionally for seven years performing 700+ shows with ComedySportz, a nationally renowned Improv company. Dr. Schreier founded, tauight,directed, and performed with the University of Michigan Improvisational Theatre Company for two years. Dr. Schreier also founded, taught, directed, and performed with “One Size Fits All Improv” of Lafayette, IN for twelve years. Basically, you know, a lot of experience with Improv and all. . . . .
